[ END NOTES AND UPCOMING STORIES ]
Afterwords:
We feel we must issue a disclaimer as to any belief that any large institutions will actually do anything about what is reported here, because we don't want to be seen either as tilting at windmills or, alternatively, pedantic and repetitive about institutional obligations.
But it doesn't take a lot of rocket science to figure that if you spend a million dollars and 20,000 hours rebuilding an old airplane to flying condition your intent and wish is that it be flown. Our position is that this investment of the ability to demonstrate flight in the Clipper Flying Cloud is part of her Provenance and her Legacy and it is an incumbency on her Keepers to give effect to it from time to time as Occasions, especially Commemorative Occasions arise. But we also acknowledge that the Keepers are, as a practical matter, primarily dependent on Interest Groups for the development of active Programs for any exhibit, which they can then make available. Which is perhaps as it should be because History is kept alive by people who believe it is important not just to celebrate history but to learn from it what may be important to the Future.
The question here is who has "standing" to give effect to the Flying Cloud Revival. We don't think we are being too hyperbolic to suggest that that honor falls to the Boeing Pan Am andTWA Heritage Groups on behalf of the Restoration Group who delivered that Provenance in the first place along with the Promise that goes with it to all the thousands of young and old alike who flock to her wherever she goes and we ask them why they have let that promise lapse. Seconding this are the Heritage Groups of Pan Am and TWA who developed and flew the Stratoliner. We make the point that the Restoration is itself a Cardinal event in the history of the aircraft restoration craft and the revival of Flying Cloud is of cardinal interest to those of Heritage Aviation who restore and fly these old things, usually at their own expense, so that they can continue to demonstrate the spirit and wonder of flight.
The Doolittle Commemorative squadron has called the tune for the 70th Anniversary and is telling you, by turning out 20 restored B-25 Mitchell bombers for the commemorative of that first strike Event, that this 70th Anniversary Season is important.

All of Heritage aviation should heed their call and look to be racking up 2X,3X,5X,10X their average log hours in the coming months. And all organizations having program or interest in this era should be hopping to it to bring their stories to the popular and classroom forums.
The legacy of Flying cloud as part of this era appends to her whether she flies or not and there are yet many avenues for giving effect to the tribute. Coming up, for instance, is her own 75th Birthday. Perhaps she will sing for us then.
Watch this space for an online petition coming soon or email NASM via: [email protected] <[email protected]>; or airandspace.si.edu/education. To call for the revival of
Clipper Flying Cloud.

In Fire Aviation we are calling for a "Fire Aviation Appreciation Week" to be held Dec 18-23 2102. In Colorado, where Flightspirit is based, this fire season was the biggest and most damaging of all time with over 40,000 people evacuated in High Park, Waldo Canyon, and Flatirons conflagration alone. This represents about 10,000 homes. And while the number of homes destroyed is over 700, the most ever, still the reverse implication is also true and that is that over 9000 of those homes are still standing today and many citizens already recognize that Fire Aviation was the critical factor.
Over 100 planes representing over a thousand air and ground crew have lauched over 4000 sorties in Colorado this year and , in fact, it is still not over. Many of these same craft and crews also serve in other states as well.
We have written to Governor Hickenlooper calling for a Proclamation for Fire Aviation Tribute Week (Dec 18-23) and implementation of that Tribute week.
We are also calling on Congress for the reintroduction of
107th CONGRESS 2d Session (2002) H. CON. RES. 457
honoring the 2002 pilots of Tanker 123 pursuant to the tenth anniversary of that crash and to correct the Public and Congress honor due them, and also
A new Resolution applying to tanker 11 and the Crew of the C -130 for passage this Session.
Fire Aviation Tribute Week does not call for participation by Fire Aviation but is a civilian pilot salute to those who fly to the front lines of the craft.. During the Fire Aviation Tribute Week we are calling for civilian pilots' group air presentation of Missing Man Formation if qualified and solo tribute flyovers of designated viewing areas as scheduled during Tribute Week.Check back for more details.
Heritage Aviation Sidebar: The picture below is P2V Neptune Tanker 10 of Neptune Aviation which was grounded by inspection for cracks in Feb, 2012 and has been retired from service by Neptune Aviation. As the Sister Ship to Tanker 11 she can stand in commemorative to those and other fallen whether or not she flies again, but it could be possible to revive her to Exibition Certificate, so she can take Fire Aviation's story to airshows etc.

These two C-54's which are emblazoned with the livery of Air Transport Command are near flying condition on display at North Weald Airfield, London, UK and are looking to Fly Home to America. Watch for further details.
These planes were brought to North Weald to Star in a motion picture about the Berlin Airlift of 1948 where combined elements of the Air Transport Command conducted over 276,000 flights around the clock to bring food and fuel and hope to besieged Berliners.
But more specifically, the film is about:
THE CANDYBOMBER.
